Legal Websites on Criminal Law

In preparation for the upcoming release of the 2022 revision of Criminal Law in Oregon, we decided to share a few blogs and websites related to criminal law matters. These sites were gleaned from chapters of the new revision and a basic Google search for criminal law blogs. We do not guarantee the accuracy of the information contained in these sites, which can change over time. Many of these links and more are included in the new edition of Criminal Law in Oregon.

National Association of Drug Court Professionals —
— Website about drug treatment courts with a wealth of information, including the organization’s best practices standards.

Office of Public Defense Services —
— This government website offers a number of resources, including Standards & Best Practices documents, forms for providers, and more.

American Bar Association —
— Criminal Justice Standards published online by the American Bar Association.

Oregon Judicial Branch —
— DUII Diversion Forms at the Forms Center. Other forms can be found at this website also.

Oregon Health Authority —
— OHA maintains this list of certified evaluators for competency and criminal-responsibility examinations.

Oregon Department of Corrections —
— The DOC website provides a wealth of information related to the prison system, mental health treatment options for adults in custody, and more.

American Psychiatric Association —
— The APA provides this excellent history of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, up through the DSM-5.

Library of Defense —
— Published by the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, this frequently updated blog includes articles on recent appellate court decisions and more, with citations and links to supporting sources.

Criminal Law Legal Research Blog —
— Published by National Legal Research Group, Inc., this blog offers articles of national scope on various criminal law issues, including DNA samples and search and seizure, false confessions, and more.

Crime & Consequences —, with archived posts at
— Published by the Criminal Justice Legal Foundation, this blog includes articles on victims’ rights issues, U.S. Supreme Court criminal cases, and studies relevant to public policy issues in the criminal justice arena. Articles are national in scope, and include a number of articles with Oregon ties.

Prison Policy Initiative Blog —
— This website focuses on issues of prison reform includes articles about Johnny Cash’s activism, Oregon legislation to rein in racial disparities in Oregon prisons, statistics related to prison populations in different states, and much more.
